The scientific concepts of sanitary and non-sanitary professionals are analised from their reports elaborated in Murcia, 1719, and Cartagena, 1785. The relationships between the social, economic and urbanistic conditions and the endemic malaria are shown by their authors, who propose to combat the illness with medical and sanitary measures, as well as economic and urbanistic ones. Their ideas supose a tentative interpretation of causes, consequences and solutions of the illnes as a social problem.
