Abstract


The article recounts the history of pharmacy in Cuba during the four centuries of the colony and the first half of the twentieth century. The continuous establishment of chemists' shops from 1598, the slow increase in trade in medicines, the creation of pharmaceutical institutions such as the Real Tribunal del Protomedicato de Cuba (1695), Real Junta Superior Gubernativa de Farmacia (1833), etc., and in this century the marked influence of North American pharmacy and the ensuing courses in the University of Habana and work undertaken in this science.
