This paper is dedicated to analyze a fragment of Oken's Lehrbuch der Naturphilosophie, whose Spanish translation has previously appeared in a former issue of this journal. After providing a brief biographical account of the author and a concise examination of this historical context, the paper studies the rational structure of Okens's natural philosophy, the reasons of acceptance of this theories by both students and scholars, the influence of other authors like Schelling and Beader on his work and finally his principal contributions to medical theory and practice.
