This article is a summary of the contents of the Alfonsine treatise called Libro del relogio dicho de la piedra de la sombra (13th c.), in which its author, Rabiçag, describes the construction of a sundial. This instrument is basically the same one described by al- Battānī (9th c.) in his Canons, with the exeption that the Alfonsine text contains some innovations and proofs which are not to be found in the Oriental treatise.
