Resumen


Hasta la Ilustración era común considerar que la religión revelada contenía información empírica. La doctrina cristiana de la resurrección de los muertos planteó problemas biomédicos y a su vez se apoyó en teorías médicas, embriológicas y químicas. A partir del Renacimiento las doctrinas paracelsianas y estoicas de las razones seminales capaces de organizar y animar la materia dieron pie a experimentos sobre resurrección artificial o palingenesia. Se estudia el origen de la doctrina religiosa, su confluencia con las filosofías renacentistas, su reelaboración mecánico-corpuscular en manos de Boyle y la paulatina extinción de las creencias en esos fenómenos con el desarrollo de los informes de laboratorio de las academias nacionales.
