La promesa de la ciencia ciudadana

Este artículo examina la ciencia ciudadana como un conjunto amplio de prácticas que abarca desde el entretenimiento hasta la contestación política, y sostiene que su institucionalización como disciplina académica podría restringir su potencial emancipa-dor. A partir de una genealogía histórica, se muestra que la ciencia moderna surgió fuera de la academia y se nutrió de públicos diver-sos, subrayando la relevancia de saberes no profesionales en la producción de conocimiento. El texto argumenta que los ciudadanos no deben ser caracterizados como ignorantes, dado que poseen competencias situadas y experienciales fundamentales para abordar problemas contemporáneos complejos. Asimismo, propone una apertura ontológica de la ciencia que permita la incorporación de actores heterogéneos en la coproducción de diagnósticos y soluciones. Mediante diversos casos, desde movimientos de pacientes hasta colectivos ambientales, se evidencia que la ciudadanía organizada genera conocimiento valioso para el interés público. El artículo concluye proponiendo un nuevo pacto social que reconozca la ciencia ciudadana como motor de bienes comunes.
