Abstract

Severe external and internal factors have been conditioning and still are women's personal development. Their capacity to procreate, the relevance of population, its quantitative and qualitative characteristics are some of the determining factors underlying the establishment of social legislation, scientific and social trends, as well as personal attitudes regarding the valuation of women as social and human beings. The author focusses on these aspects and the different social movements which, in one way or the other, supported birth control, procreation control and hence demographic checks and balances.
