Abstract

From early on, Buffon showed great interest in the work and thought of Newton. The idea of infinite progress and expansion, its cosmology, the problem of the origin of animals above all, relays explicitly upon the concept of Newtonian gravity, understood as an internal quality of matter and life. The author of this work points out the biological concepts of «internal molds», «organic particles», «basic matter», pointing out the origin of thought of the French naturalist. Finally, it questions the biological analogy of gravity, so adhered to by Buffon.
