After a brief historical introduction about the Royal College of San Fernando de Madrid, an educational institution part of the Literary University of Madrid since 1845, as a department of Pharmacy, this work analyses the functioning of the library, its location and spacial distribution, the order of reserve materials and the organization of catalogues. It also studies the role of the librarian as a position dependent upon the substitute lecturer. Finally it deals with the updating of courses given in accordance with the books included in the catalogues, focusing on the corresponding disciplines of Botany and Chemistry.
