The present work offers an objective image of the personality and work of AAbū l-῾Alā᾿ Zuhr (m. 525/1131), an author of significant medical studies of a scientifical character, and collector of an extensive work on medical rituals based on spells and charms he never brought himself to put in practice but that have unfairly branded his personality with a negative tinge. Together with a preliminary study of the genre in which this work may be classified, we are also presenting the overall characteristics of Kitab al-Jawass and a listing of the epigraphs of all its contents.
