This article forms part of a wider study on wheat cultivation as part of the trend towards diversification and agricultural technification by the Real Sociedad Patriótica de La Habana, institution created in 1793 and which played a decisive role in promoting these new ideas. The study uses the reports of the Sociedad and in particular the memoir of Antonio Bachiller y Morales, President of the Agricultural Section, published in 1848.
