Experimental science and myth in the books on zoology extant in the Royal stocks on Philipp II in the El Escorial Library: towards a new synthesis

The stocks of the Royal Library in the San Lorenzo Monastery at El Escorial, which were part pf King Philipp II, s private property and can be grouped under the headig «Natural History» (or more, concretely under the subheading «zoology») serve as the documental basis for the study of the conflicting coexistence and interaction between mythical elements and incipient empirical approaches in these works, which in this article are brought to a new scientific synthesis in explanation of the natural phenomena dealt with.
